WHAT WE DO
JAMES 1:2-3 CONSIDER IT PURE JOY, MY BROTHERS, AND SISTERS, WHENEVER YOU FACE TRIALS OF MANY KINDS, BECAUSE YOU KNOW THAT THE TESTING OF YOUR FAITH PRODUCES PERSEVERANCE
Our mission is to PASS ON JOY to those who need to be motivated, encouraged and uplifted.
PASS ON JOY was created when our son in law, Stringer, was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. Our daughter Lauren was 27 at the time and fell into the role of caregiver. She was working, taking care of their home, buying groceries, paying bills, organizing appointments and taking care of her husband. She needed some JOY scattered into her life.
With that being said I created a PASS ON JOY EXPRESS much like a meal train. All communication was done through email and text message. I contacted some of Laurens friends, and they chose a date. None of her friends lived in the town she lived in, so all the JOY was sent through the mail. These friends would send a happy on their selected day. These happy’s were anything from flowers to a card, gift cards, movie passes, gift certificates, honey baked hams, socks, lotion, and much more. It didn’t matter what was received all that mattered was that someone was thinking of them.
When going through difficulties, many people don’t know what to do or what to say. Listed are some things we have learned:
1. Do something
2. Show up- It doesn’t matter what you show up with all that matters is that you show up.
3. You don’t have to say a word- A hug says more than you think it ever would
4. Cards in the mail are still #1 in our book
5. Don’t tell someone, “Call me if you need anything.”- They won’t ever call. Be proactive and do something.
6. Call or text. Let the person decide if they want to answer or respond. Don’t get your feelings hurt if they don’t respond. They will respond when the time is right for them.
BOXES OF JOY
PSALM 94:19 WHEN ANXIETY WAS GREAT WITHIN ME, YOUR CONSOLATION BROUGHT JOY TO MY SOUL
JOY who doesn’t need it? Everyone in their life needs a little JOY sprinkled their way.
We have created several different BOXES OF JOY. These boxes can be bought and shipped to anyone that needs JOY. The best thing about a BOX OF JOY is that when you purchase a BOX OF JOY, it pays for a CANCER JOY BOX to be sent to a cancer patient.
You may have someone in your life that is facing cancer, and you don’t know what to do. All you have to do is send us the cancer patients name and address and we will take care of the rest. The patient will receive an introductory BOX OF JOY and then once a month the patient will receive JOY MAIL. We don't stop sending JOY we show up and keep showing up.
To send a BOX OF JOY to a cancer patient email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have someone who would like to share their story, we would love to know that also.
Remember when you purchase one of the pre-made boxes at our Pass on Joy store it pays for a box to be sent to a cancer patient.
GAME ON BOOK
The book GAME ON is a nonfiction book that is written by cancer patients, their families, and their friends. Every chapter begins with a football analogy and then relates the game to cancer. GAME ON addresses the mental state of the cancer patient, the nutrition of the cancer patient, the treatment of the cancer patient, the children of the cancer patient, the friends of the cancer patient and much more. What we feel resonates with those reading are the personal stories that are placed after each chapter and the personal tips located in the back of the book. The book was completed in March 2019, and our goal has been to give the book away to as many cancer patients as possible. When a person purchases a book, it gives a book to a patient also. As of June, we have given away 286 copies of GAME ON.
